River Voices

642 Things to Write About: You are about to take a nap by a river, and as you are dozing off, the rush of the river begins to sound like words. What does the river say to you? What does it want you to do?

Spring arrives by thawed rivers and lakes, in the flowers blooming in every yard. I stroke the soft, cool, dark green grass and close my eyes. I feel myself drifting like the lazy river winding around me. Then I hear it. The bubbling, rumbling of the river over rocks sounds like a voice. Oh no, not here too. I'm napping on the riverside to escape the songs and voices that mumble through the box-fan at home.

I groan and try to ignore it, concentration instead on the suns' heat soaking through my lids.

"Sopphhiieee..." a voice whispers up like mist from the water's rippling surface. I don't open my eyes and I don't dare move. "Sophie," it says again, "I know you can hear me now. All this time I was trying to contact you through the fan. I should have known a more natural approach would be more successful."

I must be dreaming. I open my eyes and look around, I'm alone. There's a swirl of water spiraling in the center of the river. I swallow and take a step away. The swirl lifts up from the water and the voice returns. "You're the only one who can help me."

Easter & Egg Dying

I dyed eggs with a friend yesterday.

Where do I start? It seems whenever I have plans, the universe laughs and has things go wrong. I'm usually pretty good at boiling eggs. Not this time! They all boiled yes, but more than half of them cracked, some split completely!

So I was able to try and dye 5 eggs. And, those came out bad! Ugh. My friend was smart and went simple, she dyed them solid colors. Here I was trying to do dots and stripes and they were coming out as if I was 10.

We went to Aldi and I got another dozen eggs and did the simple, yet beautiful solid shades for my eggs.

Here you will see turquoise, aqua, pale yellow, lime green, peach and salmon. We had a grape dye but it came out more brown, so we dumped it later one and made the turquoise color which turned out to be our favorite! We mostly did different shades of that and the more blue aqua one.

No pictures of the bad ones!

Then I came home and waited for my husband to come home from work. I thought he was leaving late but he was being tricky. He showed up early with a surprise Easter basket for me! How adorable (of him and the basket!).

Have a very springy Easter weekend! Full of flowers and light and candy and family!

Holly and Fenton MI

I'll start this new blog thing with today!

Today I went with my Mom and her friend to a cute store in Holly MI called Pigeon in the Parlor where they sell mosaics, china, linens and pottery.

I fell in love with these $200 boots. But seriously, $200?! I'll have to wait on them.

The two ladies picked up and dropped off some things and then we went to Fenton for lunch to one of our favorite places called The Laundry which used to be called The French Laundry, they changed their name due to the identical name of a restaurant in CA.

We were there for brunch, for the first time! I enjoyed their baked eggs which came with a large side salad and a buttery croissant, and french pressed coffee.

Each table inside is different and vintage, porcelain top, laminated, wooden. All the chairs are also different and vintage. The place is full of a lot of natural light, a large portion of the ceiling is stained glass. They also have an amazing bakery which we always visit for their most amazing scones on our way out of town. My favorite scone is their ginger, which they didn't have today!

I adore the way the present your bill. The Damage envelope.

I really enjoy a store in Fenton called Iron Gate, but it's so expensive I only bought a soap there. But it has a bee on it!

Well. That's all I have for tonight!
