I tried to find them a few times since, with no luck. Well today, I was in the mood to forage, strange, right? I think my peculiar girl stories are inspiring me, I wanted to find cool leaves and flowers to press, or feathers, maybe a bone? Well, I didn't really find anything, I'm new to it!
I was determined to find the stairs. And after 45 minutes of aimless wondering (I'm not kidding, I backtracked a dozen times and tried another route), I found the stairs! After the first half, I was out of breath.
This is the first half after I climbed it. I huffed up the second half after!
It was about 4pm and beautiful. Most of the trees were golden, the sun was poking through, and everything was lit up, and glowing! I was so happy to find this place again. I debated weather to continue walking one of the paths at the top of the stairs, as it would start to get a little dark soon and I wasn't a 100% sure on knowing my way back. I decided to choose a more set path, thinking I would remember it, and see where it led.
Beautiful view from the top.
Fifty feet from the stairs I came upon a park! I was totally surprised. I think I even exclaimed "What the hell?" out loud. There were a few playgrounds for kids, and this stone building, which was called The Stone Shelter Building... interesting! Bathrooms and picnic tables?
There were 8 cop cars in the parking lot of the park, I didn't really want to hang around, alone in the park with a group of police, looking lost and suspicion, muttering "what the hell, where am I?". So I took a few quick pictures of the stone building, and discovered ANOTHER set of wooden stairs on the opposite side of the building! I was torn. I wanted to take the second set down and see where it led, and find my way. But it was getting late and cold and I don't really want to get lost. Maybe another time, in the morning. I went back the way I came. As it turned out, I was way better and remembering the route I took. I got back to my car in 30 minutes.
It was a great walk. I'm going to go with my Dad again next week, he had forgotten about it and is excited to return. I can't wait to walk through the woods in the winter with my snow shoes.
